Police to Try Diplomatic Approach to Free Hostages in Philippines

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National Police Headquarter stated that it would coordinate with Foreign Affairs Ministry, Indonesian Military Force (TNI), and the National Intelligence Agency (BIN) to free two Indonesian hostages taking by a Philippines armed groups Abu Sayyaf. The police said it would take a diplomatic approach to rescue the hostages.
“Ministry of Foreign Affairs will invite TNI, Police, and BIN to take a humanist and persuasive diplomatic approach,” said National Police spokesman Brig. Gen. Dedi Prasetyo today, February 21.

Report on two Indonesians being held hostage was known from a viral video on Facebook since yesterday. A 30-second video shows victims demanding the Indonesian government’s care and ransom of Rp10 billion to release them.
The two Indonesian men are residents of Wakatobi, Southeast Sulawesi named Hariadin and Heri Ardiasyah.
Dedi said that the rescue effort would be coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Indonesian Embassy in the Philippines would work with the Philippine government for negotiation.
The police would also synergize with the Philippines' police to provide data on the armed group network and terror perpetrators.
